ABOUT

OUR VISION IS A CITY WHERE ALL YOUNG PEOPLE CAN IMAGINE THEIR POTENTIAL

We established Plymouth Aspirations Trust in 2010 to assist young people in Plymouth, who have been recognised by a supporting organisation, as having an aspiration to do higher and greater things. We wanted to recognise young people’s aspirations in areas like sport, music, art, as well as vocational or academic interests.

Plymouth Aspirations Trust was set up with support from Plymouth City Council. Working with the council we have been able to help young people in Plymouth work towards their passions and aspirations by providing grants for events, equipment, experiences and travel.

IN 2022 THE TRUSTEES WANTED TO GROW THE CHARITY TO INCREASE THE REACH AND IMPACT ON YOUNG PEOPLE IN PLYMOUTH.

Working with Drift Advice we have redefined our vision, our mission and our outcomes. We have created a new application process, set up a new bank account and ensured the charity is recognised as an independent charity. With support from 51 Studio and Altitude we have created a new brand and website.

OUR VISION IS A CITY WHERE ALL YOUNG PEOPLE CAN IMAGINE THEIR POTENTIAL

  • Our mission is to encourage the unusual, and to give young people the freedom to explore and create fabulous futures.

  • Our aim is to grow a city wide grant fund that supports young people to try new things and build their aspiration. To develop projects that help young people to understand what they want from their futures.

  • We are working to achieve the following outcomes:

Young people can articulate their goals and future plans, and build their confidence to try new things.

  • Plymouth Aspirations Trust currently encourages young people to make applications when they find a hurdle in their journey which is preventing them from fulfilling their aspirations. Most applications received are usually in the areas of sport, music and the arts.

I was invited to join the trustees of Plymouth Aspirations Trust on my first day of employment with Plymouth City Council in January 2015.

My role as head of Plymouth Youth Music Service and the music hub means that I can bring a certain amount of expertise when we look at applications linked to the arts.

I, like all of our trustees, am able to bring a unique skillset to inform the other trustees. This means we can each ensure that PAT is the best solution or we have the knowledge to suggest a preferable route for the applicants to follow in order to achieve their aspirations.
